Is Squid Eating Erotic?

A rather heated discussion has arisen here on the erotic nature of eating squid.
I have investigated this further & I conducted a comprehensive study. The study set out to determine the erotic nature and measured taste, where it is eaten & how it makes you feel after & if there are any aphrodisiac effects after consumption.

The following results were found:
Squid eating is erotic under the following circumstances:
- It is cooked to tender perfection by grilling or frying & served with lemon. Best examples can be found at the Balkan Restaurant on Oxford St, Pizza Mario at Republic 2 or at Souen on E13th St, New York (& a notable mention for what use to be served at Fix).
- Aphrodisiac effects were heightened when a maximum number of tentacles were consumed
- Can also be erotic when a really hot guy is feeding it to you while you are hanging from your toes upside down (even more effective when squid is replaced with grapes)

Squid eating is not erotic under the following circumstances:
- It is under cooked or over cooked, slimy or the guts haven't been taken out
- When marinated in something that is not yummy
- When there is an unattractive person close by while you are eating the squid
- People who have a name that contains any of the following letters: Y, U & C will never find squid erotic

Cocoa Pistachios

Ok, matcha almonds have some stiff competition.
Today at Wholefoods I found cocoa covered pistachios & they are amazing!!
They are shelled with dark cocoa around them & I think some sugar is in there somewhere as they are slightly sweet.
YUM.

Why do I always order fusilli?

Because I'm silly.

If you have a better match of pasta for my personality, please post & you could be the winner of an exclusive Peeler package.

2nd Ave Deli Closes

A very tragic thing has occured in this wonderful city this year. The 2nd Ave Deli has closed it's doors over a $9,000 increase in rent to $33,000 per month. Going to the 2nd Ave Deli was a wonderful and always entertaining experience. I'll miss the matza ball soup, chopped lived & chocolate babka.

This was taken at Tokei-ji just near Kita-kamakura train station.

Things I love about New York in the winter

Winter in NY is tough if you aren't use to cold weather. Some days it's just too cold! But it's not all bad....

Things I love in the winter:
- Nothing beats openning your blinds in the morning to a snow covered Gramercy Park
- Hibernating on the weekend with green tea, chocolate, cheese (Soignon spreadable goats cheese is of choice) and Netflix movies or Limewire downloads of all the best shows I miss while I'm working late nights (Arrested Development, Lost, Nip/Tuck)
- Dressing like a slob under your coat as nobody gets to see what's underneath!
- Upside-down & sideways rain
- Wearing boots so you don't have to worry about puddles
- Sleeping in on the weekend & general laziness which I think is very exceptable behaviour in the cold
- Apples are the only local produce that's in season (this doesn't make winter any better really, but I love the huge apple selection at the Union Sq markets on Saturdays)

Matcha Almonds

Yesterday I passed by Itoen (New York flagship store of the Japanese tea company) & they had samples of Matcha Almonds. I got some & they are very yummy. The are roasted almonds covered in a very thin layer of chocolate & then have a fine layer of matcha on top. I am going to try and make some as the little bag they sell there which probably only has 15-20 nuts is $7 a pop. Seeing I could eat 2 bags in about 2 minutes this could be a very expensive new obsession.
Itoen

Itoen also has a Japanese restuarant upstairs which I am keen to try - check out the menu, it looks great:

Fish Guts Chaos: II - 'The Eel Strikes Back'

After the blockbuster success of Fish Guts Chaos in 2004, Tsukiji features again in this new blockbuster. 'The eel Strikes Back' is far more provocative & hard hitting than the original. It has a 12 mintute 3D scene where defenceless gaijin get run over by a crazed driver of one of those mysterious round fish market cars. The film climax takes place in a boo-peep themed room at Love Hotel Hill - you wouldn't believe what they do to the tuna in this one!! This film has been a huge hit in the far East grossing $45 million in it's openning week. I've heard rumours of Oscars for this one.......

Below is a image taken with a cell phone at the openning. It's from a scene where an innocent gaijin gets chased by huge orange lumps of salmon roe.
